Arizona Legislators gear up for new session
The Arizona Legislature returns to work Monday looking both backward and forward.
Arizona’s centennial is front and center as lawmakers plan opening-day festivities. The session will be sprinkled with references to Arizona’s first 100 years and policy makers’ plans to carve out a path for the next 100.

But lawmakers will have their eye on the calendar, as elections loom in late summer and many need to acquaint themselves with new legislative districts.
“I don’t think there’s any political will to do anything longer than 100 days with these new political lines,” said Rep. Heather Carter, R-Cave Creek.
Legislative leadership echoes that, noting the last two sessions have wrapped up in close to 100 days, even as lawmakers wrestled with red-hot issues such as immigration and budget deficits.
