Rutherford biz promotion group told to relocate from town hall
RUTHERFORD — The Rutherford Downtown Partnership may have a new home by week's end, but board members are baffled about the borough-mandated move after more than a decade in the Borough Hall basement.
The new mayor, Joe DeSalvo, said the RDP doesn't belong in the municipal building because it doesn't function as a Borough Hall entity and is more associated with downtown businesses. The organization has grown stagnant over the years, and a move downtown could create buzz and rejuvenate the organization, DeSalvo said.
But members have mixed opinions of the Borough Council's decision, said the Downtown Partnership's manager, Robin Reenstra-Bryant.
The council voted last month to give the partnership a one-month extension to find a new home; the group must be out of the building by Jan. 31. It would allow RDP to use a facility in the train station free, along with a few available parking spots. Partnership members, however, were still concerned with parking, adequate space and noise levels.
