On the Road With . . . Patrick Taylor
Author Patrick Taylor is well-known for bringing the tiny fictional village of Ballybucklebo, Northern Ireland to life in his popular series of books featuring its main character, Doctor Laverty.
(The series began with An Irish Country Doctor and now include six books – the latest is A Dublin Student Doctor)
Though Taylor’s stories are set in Ireland, prior to writing fiction he travelled the world as an accomplished medical researcher in the field of human infertility; developing new surgical techniques, delivering lectures and attending conferences.
(He is Professor Emeritus of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of British Columbia and was Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver). He also served as the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Obstetrics and Gynaecology journal.
Born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England and raised in Bangor, Northern Ireland he immigrated to Canada in the 70’s and currently lives on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia.
