AT&T and Verizon beef up cell phone networks in South Florida
South Florida remains a hot spot for cell phone users and major cell phone carriers continue to invest in the networks they have here, including AT&T and Verizon Wireless.
For instance, last month AT&T added service capacity to 26 sites in Broward County, 8 sites in Palm Beach County and 19 cell sites in Miami-Dade County. The areas benefitting from the upgrades include: Hollywood, Fort Lauderdale, North Lauderdale, Lauderdale by the Sea, Sea Ranch Lakes, Oakland Park, Lauderdale Lakes, Sunrise, Tamarac, Lauderhill, Miramar, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, Margate, Pompano Beach, and Hillsboro Beach in Broward County; and Wellington, West Palm Beach, Riviera Beach, Lake Park, and Palm Beach Gardens in Palm Beach County.
The network enhancements increase mobile broadband capacity, and the additional capacity allows cell sites to accommodate more traffic, which helps improve the performance of mobile broadband data and voice connectivity, said an AT&T spokesperson.
It is the latest evolution of mobile scams that already involve text spam and cell phone telemarketing schemes. Verizon Wireless said that it has filed more than 20 lawsuits since 2004 in an effort to crack down on mobile-related fraud.
