In my view, the first challenge for FDC is the fact that Besigye is bigger than the party, to the extent that whenever one mentions the party, his name automatically comes into the picture.

This also applies to other parties like NRM, PPP, and the rest. The first task for FDC is to try to move away from Besigyeís shadow and build a political institution so that a new leader who will come after him does not overshadow the party as has been the case.

This should also apply to parties like PPP, UPC and the rest, because if such a situation arose in these parties, they would definitely face the same problem. It is even more valid for the ruling NRM, because if anything happened to President Museveni, God forbid, it would be the end of NRM.

Furthermore, it would set this country ablaze, given the current internal strife within NRM. As a party, FDC has another hurdle of picking a new leader. This is so because it is their first time to face the challenge of changing leadership at that level.
