Rating: ****ScenesHD have issued a series of relaxing ambient nature videos with accompanying sounds of nature in either stereo or quad. The idea is sort of a continuation of the popular fire in the fireplace videos which always get the spotlight around this time of year. But these are shot in various beautiful locations in pristine video and audio, and without narration or titles.
This Blu-ray was shot with the camera on a tripod and just sitting for 30 minutes at a time at various locations in the Finnish Archipelago—the Gulf of Finland, the Aaland Islands, and the Turku Archipelago. I didn’t even know where this was when I first saw the video, or that it was such a gorgeous place. Most of the shots are made near the water, with the endless motion of the water a major element in the scenes. Obviously you don’t need to be glued to the screen; you can read, exercise, do whatever you want while the video plays. Interesting that the multichannel is only 4.0 instead of 5.1, but it’s sufficient for the very natural sounds of nature at each location. The birds on some of the scenes had a vertical quality on my system when using Dolby ProLogic IIz decoding on either the 2.0 or the 4.0 audio tracks.
